Lake Placid’s ice out winners announced

The ice officially went out on Mirror Lake — seen here on Sunday, April 16 — at 8:40 a.m. Friday, April 14, according to Sara Ashley at the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service, which holds its Ice Out Benefit each spring to raise money for the organization. They raised $2,795 in this year’s fundraiser. Contest winners for Mirror Lake were: first, Melanie Powers, who guessed 9:00 a.m.; second, John DiMinno, 8:00 a.m.; and third, Frank Blair, 1 p.m. Lake Placid lake officially went out at 2:22 p.m. Saturday, April 15.
