LAKE PLACID — The American Legion Post 326 will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 12 at their building at the corner of Main and School streets.

A light lunch and snacks will be served. The purpose of the open house is to invite the public to see the facilities, including the community/family meeting room, and meet members.

The mission of the American Legion is not only to support active military and veterans, but to promote Americanism, and the local post supports a variety of youth programs in the area, including sporting athletes, scouts and scholarships for high school graduates.

Post officials especially want to invite the younger community to visit and learn about the missions and consider joining the post as a veteran Legion member or as non-veteran member of the Sons or Daughters of the American Legion or an Auxiliary member. The American Legion also has New York state programs to involve juniors in high school to get involved in governance and public speaking.

The American Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019, and the Lake Placid Post 326 was founded the same year, in 1919, to support the veterans of this area. The post continues to support local and area veterans through the facility and various ceremonies throughout the year, including Memorial Day and Veterans Day parades and ceremonies raising and lowering flags honoring our service men and women. A new program was initiated last fall with posters honoring local service men and women as “Local Heroes” displayed throughout the village on utility poles.

Starting at $1.44/week.
