LAKE PLACID — St. Agnes School students, faculty, staff and volunteers are preparing for their annual Christmas Bazaar & Craft Show, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. It’s the first time since before the pandemic that the event will be held indoors, as COVID-19 precautions forced the vendors and children’s activities outside, into the school’s parking lot on Hillcrest Avenue.

“We’re really excited to be back inside, back in person,” Principal Catherine Bemis said on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

The night before, students and parents were busy decorating special wreaths for the event. And a 20-foot-tall Christmas tree was being set up in the gymnasium.

The Christmas Bazaar will feature vendors selling baked goods, gifts, toys and craft items. The school will hold its annual sale of trees, wreaths and poinsettias. And there will be a raffle and silent auction.

All to benefit the programs at St. Agnes School.

Best of all, Santa Claus will be visiting the school at noon, so children wishing to have their photo taken with Santa should be there before he leaves at 12:30 p.m.

The school will bring back its traditional doughnuts this year. They’ve been missing because the old doughnut machine died, and they’re back because a new doughnut machine has been purchased. Christmas Bazaar patrons can enjoy the doughnuts outside around the fire pit in the parking lot, a popular attraction during the past couple of years when the event was held outdoors.

The school is also hosting its annual Gingerbread House Contest during the event, which is open to the public. Submissions will be displayed for all to see. Submissions can be dropped off at the school during the day; after-hours submissions can be placed inside the unlocked portion of the school foyer. Entries will be posted on the school’s Facebook page at 10 a.m. Saturday; that’s where people can vote on their favorite gingerbread house. Winners will be determined by the number of “likes” received by 1:30 p.m. Prizes are $100, individuals; and a $100 gift card to Imagination Station, teams.
