Lake Placid Toboggan Chute to open Saturday

LAKE PLACID — North Elba Park District Manager Butch Martin confirmed Wednesday, Jan. 12 that the Lake Placid Toboggan Chute on the shore of Mirror Lake will open for the season on Saturday, Jan. 15, the first day of a three-day holiday weekend that honors Martin Luther King Jr.

The hours on Saturday and Sunday will be noon to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday it will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Ice was 8 inches thick Wednesday at the site, Martin said, and is expected to grow thicker as temperatures dip below zero again.

In Lake Placid, there is a wind chill watch from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. On Friday night, lows are expected to be 12 to 18 below zero, with wind chill values as low as 41 below. Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with highs 5 below to 5 above zero. Saturday night is expected to have lows of 10 to 15 below zero. Sunday is expected to be sunny with highs 15 to 20 degrees.
