New Saranac Waterfront Lodge will ‘soft open’ in November

SARANAC LAKE — The swank Saranac Waterfront Lodge, which has been in the works for more than seven years, will now “soft open” sometime in November.

The hotel on the shore of Lake Flower had been set to open its doors on Nov. 1, so folks are going to have to wait at least a few more weeks to order a drink at the boat-shaped restaurant bar or pull on one of the plush robes in the “Adirondack modern” hotel rooms.

“We do not a definitive open date yet,” wrote Carolyn Bordonaro, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, in an email on Monday, Oct. 26. “The property has two more inspections to be completed, and after that it typically takes the hotel operators about two weeks to set up the hotel. I can confidently say the hotel will soft open in November.”

The 63,000-square-foot, four-floor hotel has 93 rooms, a ballroom and an event space, a pub called the Boathouse — hence the boat-shaped bar — a huge professional kitchen, a hot tub, a pool and a fitness center, though those last three amenities won’t be open during the current COVID-19 restrictions. Room rates range from $192 to $496 a night.

The Boathouse restaurant is part of the same inspections and set-up timeline, wrote Bordonaro, so dinner will have to wait until the hotel is open for business.

Saranac Waterfront Lodge has multiple owners, some of whom have not been publicly named. Lee Pillsbury and Mark Pacala continue as members of the lead investment group, according to Bordonaro. The Saranac Lake-based management company Skyward Hospitality runs the hotel.

Starting at $1.44/week.
