Local couple plans outdoor market on Parkside Drive

LAKE PLACID — A local couple is exploring the idea of opening up a new seasonal outdoor market at a historic building on Parkside Drive.

Emily Rath and her husband Tom have submitted an application to the North Elba-Lake Placid Joint Review Board seeking authorization to operate a seasonal outdoor market on their property at 176 Parkside Dr. The request was on the board’s agenda for its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The market, if approved, would be located outside of an old barn on the property. Emily said Thursday, Oct. 1 that the market would be called The Stables — a nod to the property’s former use as a horse stable — and would feature seasonal items.

When she and her husband travel, Emily said they like to visit flea markets and seasonal markets, and they thought it’d be nice to have something like that here.

Parking would be “strictly barnyard parking as marked,” Emily notes in the couple’s application. “A few upper lots would be available if needed to enter/exit (the) barn driveway and enter/exit through eased drive onto Parkside.”

The market, if approved, would operate “seasonal weekends and select weekdays,” according to the application.

Starting at $1.44/week.
