State Police had announced Monday morning that Darren Elling, 16, had last been seen at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Police described him and said he has ties to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, as well as the Albany and Schenectady areas.

Then at 5 p.m., police issued an update saying only that Elling had been “safely located.”

Mountain Lake Academy is a boarding school for boys “with emotional and learning difficulties,” according to its website.
