Area varsity golfers finish strong at states

Two days of competition in the New York State Public High School Golf Championships wrapped up on June 9 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville, as four Tri-Lakes high school golfers posted solid results.

Tupper Lake was represented by Wyatt Trudeau and Ashton Clark, while Lake Placid’s Carver Bell and Saranac Lake’s Ryan McGinnis-Theis also competed.

Through the two days, Trudeau led the area, finishing tied for 60th place overall in the state championship out of 99 total golfers. The eighth-grader turned in 81s on both days for a combined score of 162. The Lumberjacks’ Clark, a senior, tied for 91st with a score of 178. Clark shot an 84 on June 8 and a 94 on June 9.

Lake Placid’s Bell, a sophomore, turned in a two-day score of 164 to tie for 68th place overall. Bell shot an 81 on the opening day and an 83 on the second day.

McGinnis-Theis, also a sophomore, tied for 81st with a combined score of 170. He shot an 82 on June 8, before shooting an 88 on June 9.
