Lake Placid golfers chip past Northeastern Clinton

LAKE PLACID — After having lost their first match of the season a few days prior, the Lake Placid golf team breezed past the Northeastern Clinton Cougars 5-1 at the Craig Wood Golf Course on May 9.

Brady Tremblay paced the Bombers with a team-low one-under par 34. The junior finished with three birdies and four pars on the way to defeating Northeastern Clintons’ Chase Letourneau, who shot a team-low 45. Tremblay’s performance marked his fourth straight individual match win.

Lake Placid’s Grady Draper recorded a season-low 38 to win his match over the Cougars’ Ben Fredette, who shot a 46. Draper, a junior, recorded six pars on Monday.

Juniors Chris Byrne and Alex Wright picked up wins for the Blue Bombers. Byrne chipped in five pars to win his match over Northeastern Clinton’s Dawson Byrne 40-62 and Wright had one par in his 48-55 win over the Cougars’ Alana Juneau.

After recording a par and then a birdie on the 10th and 11th hole, respectively, to open the match, Lake Placid’s Carver Bell found himself in a bit of trouble when he shot a nine on the par-four 12th hole. The seventh-grader quickly recovered to win his match by 12 strokes. Bell defeated Northeastern Clinton’s Carter Fredette 46-58 to earn Lake Placid’s fifth win.

Evan Manor picked up the lone win for the Cougars. Manor defeated the Blue Bombers’ Seb Cecunjanin 54-65.

The win pushed Lake Placid’s record to 4-1 on the season.

Beekmantown 3.5,

Lake Placid 2.5

PLATTSBURGH — After winning their first two matches by identical 6-0 scores, the Blue Bomber golfers found themselves in a super competitive match against the Beekmantown Eagles on May 6 at the Barracks Golf Course in Plattsburgh. Lake Placid couldn’t put all the pieces together and fell 3.5-2.5 for the first time this season.

Tremblay had the match’s lowest score with a 39, which beat Zack Dubray 39-50. Lake Placid’s second win came from Byrne who beat the Eagles’ Cooper Burdo 42-51.

Draper and Beekmantown’s Keegan Seamore tied in their match finishing with 42 strokes each.

Seventh graders Bell and CJ Ericson put together solid scores for the Blue Bombers but were ultimately defeated. Ericson lost to Jesse Giddings 54-55 and Bell was topped by Owen Beebie 47-50.

Despite being down by two strokes on the final hole, Beekmantown’s Riley Loughan shot three strokes better than Lake Placid’s Wright to seal the match for his squad. Loughan beat Wright 52-51.

Lake Placid 6,

Seton Catholic 0

The Lake Placid golf team cruised past the Seton Catholic Knights 6-0 at the Bluff Point Golf Resort in Plattsburgh on May 5. The match marked the team’s third shutout of the season.

Tremblay led the way for the Blue Bombers with a two-under par 34 to win his match over Thane Shalton, who shot a 61.

Draper turned a 42 — the second-lowest score on the day — to defeat Evan Waldron (61).

Byrne, Cecunjanin, Ericson and Bell picked up wins for the Blue Bombers.

Byrne topped Oliver Hughes 48-66, Cecunjanin defeated Liam Battige 49-71, Ericson edged Isabella Spiegel 46-66 and Bell defeated Wyatt Trzaskos 45-65.
