LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid varsity girls soccer team defeated the Seton Catholic Knights 4-0 in a Champlain Valley Athletic Association matchup on Thursday, Oct. 7.

On Sept. 17, the Blue Bombers scored a game-winning goal with 45 seconds left to beat the Knights, 3-2, but this game the Bombers were able to take control early.

Playing one of the last home games of the season, Lake Placid’s Lily Fisher scored within the first minute of play on a pass from Kiera Levitt.

A few minutes later, Lake Placid’s Dariana Patterson scored one of her own on another pass from Levitt. The goal made the score 2-0 within the first three minutes of play.

“They have some good players,” Lake Placid head coach Heather Brewer said. “But the fact that we scored two goals in the first three minutes, crushed their spirits.”

Patterson, a senior, scored once again to close out the first half, 3-0. Patterson’s goal was assisted by Emma Adragna.

“The first half was definitely our best game of the year,” Brewer said. “We went out and started right from the whistle, scored early and had a lot of good passes to the outside. Crosses coming in and finishing shots. Things that we have been working on and it was nice to see that come together tonight.”

In the second half, Patterson added to her dominant night of play when she found a wide-open Fisher, who was able to score the final goal of the game.

The Blue Bombers controlled the ball for most of the game as the team went on to win.

Lake Placid’s Brooklyn Huffman earned the shutout. Huffman had three saves in net. Seton Catholic’s Allisyn Johnston had 16 saves.

Following the game, seven seniors were honored. The seniors were Adragna, Huffman, Patterson, Weber Hemsley, Chelsea Moore, Arnita Cecunjanin and Danaya Patterson.

“I think the seniors all played well,” Brewer said. “They are all normally starters and they are all key parts of our team this year. I thought that they all stood out tonight.”

Following the win, the Blue Bombers defeated Saranac Lake 1-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 12. The two wins marked the fourth straight for the team, who now move up 6-7 on the season. The team played its last regular-season game on Thursday against Chazy.
