LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid girls varsity soccer team fell 3-0 to Boquet Valley on Tuesday at the North Elba Show Grounds.

In the first game of the season, the Blue Bombers kept the game close throughout the entire first half and most of the second half. That was until Boquet Valley’s Alexis Bormann opened the scoring with about nine minutes left in the game.

Liz Poe and Sofia Fiegel followed up Bormann’s goal with a goal each, against a Lake Placid team that appeared sluggish. The Griffins held the lead until the end of the game.

“I thought the score was not indicative of how most of the game was played,” Lake Placid coach Heather Brewer said. “In the last 15 minutes, we just got outplayed.”

The Blue Bombers had multiple opportunities as the team outshot Boquet Valley 7-4. Ella Lobdell was a brick wall in the net as she shut down all seven of Lake Placid’s chances. Lake Placid’s Brooklyn Huffman had one save in the loss.

“We had a lot of chances, they didn’t go in,” Brewer said. “I think if one of the shots had gone in earlier I think it’s a different game. I think the last 15 minutes we looked tired. There are things we need to improve on and the other team just finished the game better today.”

Brewer said the reason the team was tired was due to having a shorter preseason, but she expects the team to get into shape after a few games have passed.
