Patterson scores late as SLP rallies to tie PHS

PLATTSBURGH — On Wednesday, March 24, the Saranac Lake Placid girls ended their four-game season in a 4-4 deadlock with Plattsburgh.

After losing their first two games of the season to the Hornets by a combined 13-2 score, SLP got the tie when Plattsburgh when Dariana Patterson sent home a shot with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.

The game was the third time SLP competed in as many nights.

Patterson scored twice in the third period, and netted the game-tying goal after senior Whitney Battistoni was pulled from the net to put an extra attacker on the ice.

The teams then played a scoreless five-minute sudden-death overtime.

“We actually had a chance to pull it out in the last minute of overtime,” SLP head coach Butch Martin said. “It would have been great to get the win, but in the end, the feeling was, ‘We’ll take the tie and get out of town. We just tied the state semifinalists who basically pummeled us the last two times out.'”
