It was the first event of the season Meyers Taylor participated in, and as it turned out, it will be her last of the season. The three-time Olympic medalist is pregnant and will be taking this winter off from competition.

Along with her husband Nic Taylor, the couple is due in March, and for the most part, their timing is right because Meyers Taylor expects to be ready and back in top form by the time the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China roll around.

Although Meyers Taylor still plans to stay involved with the U.S. team and the sport this season, she won’t be sliding and hopes to be back competing during bobsledding’s 2020-21 campaign.

“I always wanted to have a family sometime during the next quad,” Meyers Taylor said after taking the women’s driver push title. “I wish it was last year but I’ll take it when I can get it. The fact that we were even able to get pregnant and go through this whole process has been a miracle, so I’m super excited. And if I take this year off, there’s still plenty of time before the Olympics, and I’ll be involved with the team – watching sleds; try to stay involved and try to stay sharp.”

Meyers Taylor said since she had been training all along this summer, she wanted to put her efforts to the test at the push championships.

“I’ve been training really hard all summer long,” she said. “Obviously, we didn’t know we were pregnant for a while, so I felt like if I can do it, get some last couple pushes in and stay in that training mode before I have to shut it down, I was going to go for it. My first title of the season, and my last – I’ll take it.”

Meyers Taylor and her husband Nic were married in 2014, and she said it’s worked out great, especially when it comes to her success on the track.

“I think sometimes as bobsledders you get bogged down in a world where the most important thing is winning a gold medal from week to week,” she said. “That changed when I got married. At the end of the day, it allowed me to win more medals, because I knew regardless of what happened, there’s always somebody at home to love me. And now, having a baby, that’s even more love for me and for the world. It’s a cool perspective builder.”

Meyers Taylor captured the women’s driver title with pushes of 4.38 and 5.07 seconds and a 9.45 total. Brittany Reinbolt placed second, Kristi Koplin was third and Shelby Williamson finished fourth.

Whitehall’s Codie Bascue won the men’s pilot championship with pushes of 4.21 and 4.19 and an 8.40 total. Geoff Gadbois placed second and Hunter Church finished third.

For the female push athletes, Sylvia Hoffman of Arlington, Texas finished first in 9.40 with pushes of 4.76 and 4.74. Ebony Hoffman was runner-up and Jasmine Jones took third place.

Kyle Wilcox, a 26-year-old from Tampa, Florida, claimed the men’s push athlete title in an extremely tight three-heat competition. He won with pushes of 4.33, 4.46 and 4.46 and a 13.25 total. Kris Horn was a close second, just three-hundredths back, and Jimmy Reed place third with a 13.30 total.

The 2019-20 International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation World Cup season is slated to open in Park City, Utah Nov. 25-Dec. 1. Lake Placid will be the next stop, with training and racing taking place at Mt. Van Hoevenberg Dec. 9-15.
