Lake Placid hangs tough in regional final

SARANAC – The Lake Placid volleyball team fought until the end Saturday against Chateaugay in a Class D regional championship game at Saranac Central.

After dropping the first game 25-13, the Blue Bombers just missed winning game two, then came through with a win in the third game. Chateaugay was able to regain control in the fourth, though, as Lake Placid had to settle for a 25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 25-9 defeat.

Brenna Garrett had a strong game at the net for Lake Placid with eight kills, three assists and five service points. Kiana Fell racked up 10 assists and two kills.

Georgia O’Leary, Ally Wallace, Melissa Rath and Jasmine Phillip each put down three kills to contribute for the Blue Bombers.

Caitlin Miller powered her way to 19 kills and 13 assists and Kylie Hanley recorded 17 service points and 22 assists to pace the Bulldogs.

With the victory, Chateaugay advanced to the NYSPHSAA Class D championships, where they will face Haldane in a pool play match on Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The Blue Bombers advanced to Saturday’s regional final after capturing their second-straight Section VII, Class D title last week with a win over Northern Adirondack. It was the second year in a row that Lake Placid’s season ended in the regional final against Chateaugay.
