SARANAC – The Lake Placid volleyball team went years without winning a Section VII title before capturing last year’s crown with a win over perennial champion Northern Adirondack.

That pattern has shifted in favor of the Blue Bombers.

Lake Placid won its second sectional Class D title in a row on Saturday with a 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 victory over Northern Adirondack. Before last year, the Blue Bombers hadn’t won a title since 1992.

With the victory, Lake Placid earned a spot in the state tournament, where the Blue Bombers will face either Chateaugay or the Section II champion on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Saranac Central School.

Georgia O’Leary, Brenna Garrett and Kiana Fell led the way for Lake Placid. Garrett put down nine kills to go along with her six assists, one block and one ace.

Melissa Rath chipped in five aces, 15 service points and two kills and Ally Wallace had four kills to round out the Blue Bombers’ attack.

Taylair Garrand had a strong match for Northern Adirondack with 11 digs, six assists and 12 service points.
