Blue Bombers run away with invitational

CADYVILLE – The Lake Placid boys cross country team took first place in the Section VII Invitational on Saturday after placing three runners in the top 10.

“This is the first time anyone can remember Lake Placid winning an invitational,” said Lake Placid coach Mel Frazer. “The Lake Placid team was the fastest that day out of all Section VII teams competing.”

Karl Shulz was the first Blue Bombers boy to cross the line with his third-place finish in 16 minutes, 49 seconds. Scott Shulz took seventh in 17:37, Forest Ledger was ninth in 17:42, Trent White was 11th in 17:48 and Curtis Rissberger placed 20th in 19:07.

Lake Placid turned in a team score of 46 points, to beat out second-place Plattsburgh with 59 points. Saranac was third with 73, Peru was fourth with 98, Saranac Lake was fifth with 121, Seton Catholic was sixth with 129 and AuSable Valley placed seventh with 165.

Jeriqho Gadway of Plattsburgh was the top runner with a time of 15:55, followed by Saranac’s Zach LePage in 16:44. Zane Pelletieri placed 10th in 17:46 for Saranac Lake while teammate Anderson Gray finished 15th in 17:53.

Margaret Champagne of Seton Catholic won the girls race in 18:36. Johanna Mohrs of Saranac Lake was second in 19:33 and Sofia DeJordy of Seton Catholic was third in 19:38.

Gabby Armstrong of Lake Placid placed sixth with a time of 20:56 and Maggie Peer of Saranac Lake was 13th in 22:04.
