Baird collects hat trick

LAKE PLACID – Lake Placid sophomore Stuart Baird exploded for three goals to lead the Blue Bombers boys soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Northern Adirondack on Tuesday.

Baird scored his first goal late in the first half on a pass from Chris Williams. Connor Preston found Baird for the second goal of the game four minutes later in the 35th minute to give Lake Placid a 2-0 advantage going into the second half.

Baird completed his scoring surge with a penalty kick goal at the 16:44 mark of the second half.

Noah Mohr, a junior, stopped three shots in goal for Lake Placid to earn the shutout victory.

The Blue Bombers outshot Northern Adirondack 17-6. Ethan King collected nine saves for the Bobcats.

Lake Placid returns to action Thursday with a home game against Chazy.

VOLLEYBALL

Peru 3, Lake Placid 2

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid volleyball team lost a five-game heartbreaker Tuesday in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match against Peru.

The Blue Bombers won the first game 25-20, then lost the second 25-17 and the third 24-19. Lake Placid forced a fifth game with a 25-17 win in the fourth. The Indians closed out the match with a 25-19 victory.

Brenna Garrett racked up 11 assists, eight aces, four kills, one block and 14 service points to pace the Blue Bombers.

Megan Kelso recorded 19 assists, three digs and two aces and Maddie Kaplan chipped in seven aces and seven kills to lead the Indians.

PLATTSBURGH – Lake Placid runners Karl Shulz finished third overall, Forest Ledger was fourth, Scott Shulz was sixth and Trent White was seventh as the Blue Bombers boys earned three dual meet victories Tuesday.

Jonathan Gay of EKMW won the boys race with a time of 17:00. Karl Shulz covered the course in 17:31, followed by Ledger in 18:08.

Zane Pelletieri was the first Saranac Lake boys finisher with his fifth-place finish in 18:12. Teammate Anderson Gray crossed the line in 18:25 for eighth place.

On the girls side, Lake Placid senior Nina Armstrong placed second with a time of 19:47. Margaret Champagne won the race in 19:27.
