Lake Placid 16U team travels for tourney

The Lake Placid 16U softball team traveled to Wynantskill last weekend for the Classie Lassies Invitational tournament. The Bombers, which is made up of girls from four different school districts, lost all four of their games.

Seeded 14th of the 16 teams going into Sunday’s single-elimination round, Lake Placid was matched up against third-seeded Nightmare Gold. The Bombers fell behind early were unable to recover in a 10-4 defeat

Maddie Tucker, a Northeastern Clinton student, went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple, while Lauren Stanley chipped in two hits to lead Lake Placid. Casey Frederick, Myranda Miller and Morgan Meyer each had one hit.

Lake Placid’s closest game of the weekend was a 4-3, eight-inning loss to Niskayuna Sonic. Tucker went 2-for-3 with a triple and Miller (Northeastern Clinton) struck out two and walked two from the pitcher’s circle.

The Bombers lost their first game of the gournament 13-0 against the East Greenbush Renegades, then fell 9-0 against Capitaland Crunch.

Elaina Smith represented Keene High School on the team, while Lake Placid students Meyer and Keely Rose also played in the tournament.

The team was coached by Greg Hayes assisted by Tim Miller.
