LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid tennis teams split at home Thursday in a match against Northern Adirondack. The Blue Bombers girls claimed a 4-1 win over the Cougars, while the boys fell by a 3-2 score.

The Lake Placid girls swept all three singles matches and the top doubles contest in their victory. In the top singles, Victoria O’Leary claimed a 7-5, 6-1 win over Maegan Brunelle. In the second match, Brenna Garrett defeated Taylor Pitts 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), and Kayla Hudson posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Katie Lamb at third singles.

In the top doubles, Sophie Morelli and Liza Marinis claimed a straight set win for the Blue Bombers. They topped Anna Lashaway and Tylar LaFountain 6-1, 6-2.

Katelyn Snide and Amber Collins earned NAC’s win at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Lake Placid’s Rhiannon Patterson and Jasmine Phillip a 6-3, 6-4 score.

Despite falling to the Cougars and remaining winless, Lake Placid boys coach George Bailey was pleased with the effort put in by his young, inexperienced team.

On Thursday, the bright side for the Blue Bombers came in the top two singles matches, as Georgia O’Leary and David Knapick posted their first wins of the season. Both matches were close. Playing on the boys team, O’Leary, who is a junior, topped NAC’s Steven Warick 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) at first singles. Knapick battled three sets to prevail at No. 2 singles, topping Mitchell Garceau 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

Both O’Leary and Knapick improved to 1-3 with their wins.

“It was nice to see Georgia break the ice, and David played very well,” Bailey said. “I think the last match was a wake-up call for Georgia. She’s beginning to see realistically where she sits in this league, which is smack dab in the middle. Next year, she could be at the top.”

Unfortunately, Lake Placid forfeited a point to the Cougars at No. 3 singles.

In a well-contested first doubles match, Cougars Scott Kellett and Jared Brunelle defeated Blue Bombers Sawyer Chase and Ray Zhang 6-4, 6-2. Darien Velasquez and Blake Forkey won at second doubles for NAC, defeating Colin Briggs and Kyle Kirby 6-0, 6-2.

Lake Placid’s tennis teams will be back in action again Monday, hosting Northeastern Clinton starting at 3:30 p.m.
