Lake Placid softball keeps rolling

LAKE PLACID – After dropping its first game of the season, the Lake Placid softball team has strung together some impressive victories. And the Blue Bombers biggest win to date may have come on Monday.

Playing at home, the Blue Bombers rapped out 12 hits and scored the winning run in their final at-bat to claim a 4-3 victory over Ticonderoga.

Alexis Megliore had two doubles to lead Lake Placid, which handed the Sentinels their first setback of the season. Carissa Kennedy, who pitched her third straight complete-game victory, also had a single and a triple, and Adele Jesmer had two singles.

Every batter in the Blue Bombers’ lineup recorded at least one hit.

In the back-and-forth game, Lake Placid held a 3-2 edge in the bottom of the fourth and the Sentinels tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the fifth. The Blue Bombers then pushed a run across the plate in the sixth to go ahead 4-3 and held Ticonderoga off the scoreboard in the seventh to earn the win.

Nicole Fuller paced the Sentinels with three hits, including a double, and teammates Maura Jebb and Haliegh Wright each had two hits.

Lake Placid is next slated to play Wednesday on the road at Saranac Lake.

GOLF

Lake Placid 6, Ticonderoga 0

LAKE PLACID – Four Lake Placid golfers fired rounds in the 30s Monday at the Lake Placid Links course on their way to a 6-0 victory over Ticonderoga.

The Blue Bombers improved to 2-0 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference with the win. Bjorn Kroes led the way with a one-over par 36 to defeat Griffin Hughes in the No. 3 match.

In the top pairing, Kiefer Casler shot a 38 to earn a nine-stroke win over Jake Young. Ryan Kane and Miles Lussi also carded 39s in their victories. Kane beat Zehan Afzal by nine-shots in the second match and Lussi topped Connor Lawrie at No. 4.

Lucas Strack shot a 42 to top Joel Cook in the fifth match and Jay Reid shot a 45 at No. 6 in a win over Duncan Bain.

Pat Kane also fired a 37 for the Blue Bombers in exhibition play.

The Blue Bombers will be back on the course Wednesday when they travel to face Plattsburgh High School.

TENNIS

Lake Placid 5, AuSable Valley 0

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid girls tennis team notched another victory, blanking AuSable Valley 5-0 Monday on the Blue Bombers courts.

Victoria O’Leary, Brenna Garrett and Kayla Hudson posted singles wins in the match, while the doubles teams of Liza Marinis and Sophie Morelli and Jasmine Phillip and Rhiannon Patterson also won.

O’Leary triumphed 6-2, 6-2 in the top singles match, Garrett won 6-4, 6-1 in the second singles, and Hudson posted a 6-0, 6-1 win in third singles.

Playing at No. 1 doubles, Marinis and Morelli won 6-2, 6-3, and in No. 2 doubles, Phillip and Patterson earned a 6-4, 7-6 victory.

The Blue Bombers are next scheduled to host Saranac Central on Wednesday.
