Bombers softball splits twinbill

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid softball team took one of two games Thursday in a doubleheader against AuSable Valley.

The Patriots won the first game 8-2 and Lake Placid turned the tables in the nightcap with a 10-2 win.

Lake Placid junior Carissa Kennedy took care of all the pitching duties, giving up 11 hits in the first game and four in the second. She also tripled in the first game.

The Blue Bombers scored seven runs over the first three innings of the second game and tacked on three more in the fourth. Liz Bimonte led the way offensively with four RBI and two doubles. Alexis Megliore racked up five RBI on two hits.

Gillian McLean hit a triple in the second game and went 3-for-3 in the opener.

Madison Rondeau went the distance in both games in the pitcher’s circle for AuSable Valley.

GOLF

Lake Placid 6, Moriah 0

PORT HENRY – Lake Placid golfers Kiefer Casler, Ryan Kane and Bjorn Kroes tied for the low score of the day with 37s as the Blue Bombers secured a 6-0 victory over Moriah on Thursday.

Miles Lussi shot a 39, Luke Strack shot a 40 and Pat Kane carded a 42 to round out the Blue Bombers lineup.

Moriah’s No. 3 golfer Kyle Wilson shot the low round of the day for the Vikings with a 40. He was matched up against Ryan Kane.

TENNIS

Lake Placid 4, Beekmantown 0

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid girls tennis team won all four the matches that were completed Thursday to pick up a 4-0 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Beekmantown.

Victoria O’Leary’s first singles match against Anna Stitt was suspended due to weather. The players had split the first two sets before play was halted in the third.

Brenna Garrett and Kayla Hudson recorded singles victories for the Blue Bombers. Liza Marinis and Sophie Morrelli captured a win at first doubles and Jasmine Phillip and Rhianon Patterson won at second doubles.

Garrett won her match at second singles in three sets.

Beekmantown 116, Lake Placid 14

Girls

Beekmantown 87, Lake Placid 45

BEEKMANTOWN – Lake Placid freshman Gabby Armstrong won the high jump and was part of two winning relay teams as the Lake Placid track and field teams matched up against a tough Beekmantown team Thursday.

Armstrong took the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 7 inches. She teamed up with her sister Nina Armstrong, Lissy Ashley and eighth-grader Kyle Kroes to win the 3,200-meter relay in 11:05.6. The winning 1,600 relay team consisted of Gabby Armstrong, Ashley, Kroes and Hannah Kaltenbach.

Esther Munoz was the only other winner for Lake Placid in the girls meet. She won the triple jump with a 26-11.

The Lake Placid boys didn’t place first in any event.
