O’Leary makes boys tennis debut
LAKE PLACID – The Peru boys and girls tennis teams made quick work of Lake Placid on Monday in the Blue Bombers’ opening matches.
The Indians didn’t surrender a set in either the boys or girls match on the way to 5-0 victories.
Lake Placid junior Georgia O’Leary saw her first action playing against boys as she dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Johnny McAuliffe. O’Leary is the first girl to play for the Lake Placid boys team, and she was in the No. 1 position on Monday.
At second singles, David Knapik dropped the first set 6-4 before being swept in the second set. Nik Kobe lost 6-0, 6-0 at third singles against Connor Bond.
On the girls side, Victoria O’Leary lost her No. 1 singles match against Margaret Mitchell, 6-2, 6-1. Sophie Morelli fell 6-4, 6-3 against Kari Kusalonis at second singles.

SOFTBALL
Minerva/Newcomb 11, Lake Placid 3
LAKE PLACID – The Minerva/Newcomb softball team built a 10-2 after three innings and held off Lake Placid the rest of the way for an 11-3 victory.
Cheyenne Williams had six strikeouts and gave up five hits to pick up a complete-game win in the pitcher’s circle.
Emily Barney pitched for Lake Placid and lasted for all seven innings, giving up 10 hits.
The Blue Bombers had five hits and five errors. Minerva/Newcomb had three errors.
Minerva/Newcomb scored six runs in the top of the first inning and added four more in the third. Lake Placid scored two in the first and one in the fourth.
