RENSSALEAR – The Adirondack boys rugby team opened the season with exhibition victories over Saratoga and Renssalear on Sunday.

Adirondack started the day with a 20-0 win over Saratoga and capped it off with a 15-7 victory over Renssalear. Adirondack consists of players from Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Saranac, Elizabethtown and Willsboro, and will contend in the Capital North Division this season with eight rookies.

First-year player Trent Fitzgerald scored Adirondack’s first try of the day. Evan Hill scored twice and team captain Joe Atkinson scored another as Adirondack ran away with the victory over Saratoga.

The second game proved to be a defensive battle. Renssalear led 7-5 at halftime, but Adirondack overtook the lead with trys by Fitzgerald and Atkinson. Fitzgerald was also responsible for Adirondack’s first try in the first half.
