Burke crossed the line with a time of 36 minutes, 17.9 seconds, which was 58.6 seconds behind winner Bjoern Ferry of Sweden. Burke had two misses at the shooting range.

“It was great to be back in the mix today fighting for a podium,” Burke said in a press release. “Of course I was disappointed with my two penalties in the last stage, but that’s just the way biathlon goes sometimes. I am feeling better and better with each race, so I am excited to see what next week brings.”

Lowell Bailey of Lake Placid finished 20th with a time of 37:30.2 and four misses.

“I felt good throughout the race and just had bad luck in the third shooting,” Bailey said. “I have no excuses why I missed. The wind was calm, I was in control and stable in my shooting position, but I just couldn’t get them to fall.

“It was a great opportunity and I’m definitely pretty bummed that I couldn’t capitalize on the good start. Now it’s all about refocusing and moving on to the next World Cup.”

Bailey was coming off a 10th-place finish in Saturday’s 12.5-kilometer pursuit race. He recorded a time of 32:23.3 with three penalties. Anton Shipulin of Russia won the pursuit in 31:02.8 with one miss.

“It was pretty windy during zero today, so I spent a lot of time at the range trying to get a feel for what the gusts were doing,” Bailey said after Saturday’s. “I felt like I had a good handle on things and the first prone went well with all the shots in the center. During the second stage I dropped two shots low, but I’m still not really sure why. The wind was definitely manageable during the stage, so I can’t really blame it on that.”

Burke placed 13th in the pursuit in 32:30.3 with three penalties.

“This was by far my best skiing since before the Olympics, so it felt great to feel like my normal self again,” Burke said following Saturday’s event. “The wind was once again pretty tricky today for shooting so there were a lot of penalties from the field.”

Susan Dunklee of Barton, Vt. finished 20th in the 10k women’s pursuit Saturday with a time of 35:28.5 and five misses.

“I am really happy that I’ve been able to hold onto my peak fitness from Sochi and continue to post strong ski times,” Dunklee said. “Shooting this week has been disappointing. I had a rifle malfunction on Thursday, and struggled with standing today, but I look forward to some more chances next week in Finland.”

The U.S. biathlon teams will travel to Kontiolahti, Finland this week for the next stop on the World Cup tour. Sprint events kick off Thursday.
