LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid boys basketball team used a big fourth quarter Wednesday to extend its season with a 52-46 victory over Chazy in the first round of the Section VII, Class D tournament.

With the win, the Blue Bombers earned a spot in the quarterfinals where they will travel to meet top-seeded Moriah at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Chazy and Lake Placid exchanged the lead throughout much of Wednesday’s game. The Eagles led 13-10 after the first quarter, but Lake Placid responded with a 17-9 second. Chazy tied the game at 35 going into the fourth.

The Blue Bombers were able to get some distance in the fourth, outscoring Chazy 17-11 to set the final score.

“This was a back and forth game from the beginning,” said Lake Placid coach Matt Walentuk. “The biggest lead the whole game was six points.”

Tarik Cecunjanin scored 13 points, Chris Kordziel had 11 and Sam Rossi chipped in 10 to lead the way for Lake Placid.

Walentuk said Andrew Meister did good job defensively against Chazy’s Hayden Guay, who was only able to manage six points.

Alec Lapierre of Chazy led all scorers with 21 points, 10 of which came on free throws.

“A lot of credit goes to our kids for doing a great job handling Chazy’s pressure down the (stretch), and closing the game out,” Walentuk said. “Chazy played hard and tough for four quarters, a lot of credit (to) coach Corey Thompson and his players.”
