The Huskies won their first two games and tied their third to earn the No. 3 spot in the playoff round. Northwood advanced to the semifinals after outlasting the NJ Rockets in overtime. Nicole Mensi scored her second goal of the tournament in the extra period to land the Huskies a spot in the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Team Detoit, an all-star team that consisted of three former Tier One teams, sent Northwood home with after a 2-0 victory.

Erin Kishoni, Rachel Lustenring and Cailey Hutchinson each scored goals during the tournament for the Huskies. Alyson Matteau and Mensi scored twice.

Megan Messuri and Katey Snyder chipped in with solid goaltending to lead the Northwood defense.

Northwood beat St. FX Hockey Academy and Gilmour Academy then tied Ridley in pool play action.

Northwood wins two

The Northwood Junior Hockey Club opened its season with two wins over CP Dynamo, a U18AAA team out of Clifton Park.

Six different players scored for the Huskies in a 6-1 win Friday night. Northwood won the second game on Saturday with a 2-0 vicotry over CP Dynamo.

The Northwood Junior team travels to the Beantown Classic this weekend in Exeter, N.H.

BOYS SOCCER

OLD FORGE – The Northwood boys soccer team finished its season with a shootout victory over Old Forge in the championship game of the Columbus Day Tournament.

Northwood goalkeeper Parker Bishop sealed the victory when he made a save in the sudden-death penalty shootout. Bishop was named as the tournament’s most outstanding player.

Old Forge scored the game’s first goal in the first half, but Northwood senior captain Josh Greiveson tied it up in the 73rd minute. The teams were even through two five-minute overtime periods, sending it to penalty kicks.

The Huskies advanced to the title game with a 1-0 win over Adirondack Central in the semifinals. Mathew Headland scored the game’s only goal.

Northwood finished the season with a 7-3-1 record. It was the Huskies’ 15th-straight winning season and 11th visit to the Columbus Day Tournament final in the last 13 years.

VOLLEYBALL

NCCS 3, Lake Placid 0

CHAMPLAIN – The Northeastern Clinton volleyball team had to contend with an improving Lake Placid team Oct. 21 and eventually came up with a 25-20, 27-25, 25-20 victory.

Ally Wallace had 10 service points and four aces, Melissa Rath had seven points, two aces and two kills and Brenna Garrett chipped in six assists and three kills to lead the way for the Blue Bombers.

Saranac 3, Lake Placid 0

SARANAC – The Lake Placid volleyball team suffered narrow losses in the first two games and never recovered Oct. 17 as Saranac captured a 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory.

Ally Wallace racked up three aces and two kills and Kiana Fell had four kills and one dig to lead the Blue Bombers. Taylor Maiorca chipped in three service points and three kills, while Brenna Garrett had five assists and five points.

GIRLS?SOCCER

Moriah 4, Lake Placid 1

PORT HENRY – The Moriah girls soccer team used three second-half goals to secure a 4-1 victory over Lake Placid on Oct. 16.

Adele Jesmer put the Blue Bombers on the board early with an unassisted score three minutes into the game. Halie Snyder tied the game up for Moriah with a goal five minutes later.

The second half belonged to the Vikings, as Caitlin Pelkey, Snyder and Regan Pratt each tallied to secure the win.

Laura Stanton made nine seves for Lake Placid.

CROSS COUNTRY

PLATTSBURGH – The Lake Placid cross country teams finished the regular season on the road Oct. 22 against Seton Catholic, Peru and Saranac.

The Blue Bombers boys picked up two victories in the dual team scoring, downing Seton Catholic 26-29 and Peru by the same score. The girls did not have a complete team.

Trent White and Forest Ledger were the top Lake Placid boys. White finished ninth in 18:57 and Ledger was 10th in 18:58.

Nina Armstrong was the top female runner for Lake Placid after finishing fifth in 20:13.

Both teams were slated to run in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference meet Oct. 26.
