LAKE PLACID – The Olympic Center will host the prestigious North Atlantic Regional Figure Skating Championships Oct. 3-8. The event is the first step toward qualifying for the Olympic Games.

Lake Placid has hosted the championships several times over the years, the last being in 2010.

Traditionally, the regional championships have always been the first step toward national and international competition, but recently these events have offered non-qualifying events as well. This means that skaters of all ages and levels will be coming to Lake Placid to compete, not just the levels that are eligible for qualifying competition.

Several members of the Skating Club of Lake Placid, as well as those that use Lake Placid as a training base, will compete in the event. To wish them good luck, the Skating Club of Lake Placid hosted a “send off” exhibition, which is traditionally held to “send” the skaters to the regional championships and celebrate this achievement. This year, they didn’t have to go far for competition, since many of them practice in the rink where the event will be held.

Competing for the Skating Club of Lake Placid are Carly Brox, Sandra Delarm, Alexa Harper, Cierra Nelson, Laine Ridenour and Amanda Shadlock.

Skaters from the region who use Lake Placid as a training base are Victoria Los from Saratoga Springs, Delaney O’Brian of Lisbon and Devon Wambolt of Watertown.
