The show featured future stars from New York City and New Jersey, including 2013 U.S. junior pewter medalist Jimmy Ma and the Skyliners Synchronized Skating Team from New York City.

Headlining the show was guest skater Ashley Cain, who was the 2012 U.S. Junior silver medalist and has represented the U.S. in international competitions. The rising star delivered two smooth performances to “Listen” by Beyonce and “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” by the Glee cast.

Cain has been to Lake Placid several times to skate in the Saturday Night Ice Show. After her pairs partnership with Josh Reagan ended in 2012, Cain focused on singles skating. She considers last season to be a good learning experience.

“Last season was OK; there were ups and downs,” Cain said. “I did well at regionals and sectionals but my performance at nationals was not great. But I learned from it and gained confidence.”

Cain has well-defined goals for this season.

“In the past, I was not as aggressive in my skating, but this season I want to be a true athlete and give 100 percent,” she said.

Fortunately, Cain has a very strong support system to help her achieve her goals. Her parents also serve as her coaches. Darlene and Peter Cain were both skaters, and teach out of the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Euless, Texas, where Ashley Cain also trains.

“I have the support of my parents who are also my coaches, so I have them pushing me everyday,” Cain said.

With the Olympics in Sochi approaching, like many athletes, Cain is very excited to see yet another Olympics.

“What I like best about the Olympics is the whole atmosphere,” she said. “It would be amazing to be called an Olympian one day.”

With her dedication and talent, there is no doubt that Cain will receive that honor one day.
