Spirited tennis leagues close in on playoffs

LAKE?PLACID – With playoff week approaching, the various Spirited Tennis Leagues at the Whiteface Club Tennis Center have only one team (or individual) assured of the coveted No. 1 seed.

In the Tour Mixed Doubles League there was no play due to rain last Thursday evening. As a result, the leaders Beth and Ron Edgley maintain their slim 41-40 lead over Alan Beideck and Lee Anne Baker.

Tammy Lalande and Wayne Feinberg follow with 37 points, Bob and Sam Mensink are tied with Judy and Bill Borzilleri at 29 points apiece. Kathy Pfohl and Steve Short (26 points) and Dave Wisneiwski and Suzanne Quaintance (20 points) round out the scoring.

The Club Mixed Doubles League saw a “breakthrough” win by Elizabeth and Paul Trachte after previously being tied for first place with Kathy Pfohl and Kyle Woodlief. Only two points now separate the two teams, but they are an important two points in regard to playoff seeding.

Jean and Bob Dusek follow with 58 points, Judy McLean and Bill Borzilleri (51 points), Chris and Bill Barnes (30 points) and Cathy Blazer and Hayden Young (21 points) round out the six-team league.

The Ladies Doubles #1 League continues to be a very tight race with only one point continuing to separate the first- and second-place teams. Pam Smith and Tina Eigenman still lead Judy Borzilleri and Betsy Senkowski 66-65.

Kathy Pfohl and Georgia Sokol have 49 points and Judy McLean and Madeline LaHart trail with 33 points.

The Ladies Doubles #2 League uses a round-robin format and individual scoring. Linda Moore holds a commanding advantage with 65 points, followed by Lori Fitzgerald (57 points), Janice Williamson (50 points) and Gwyn-Anne Bissonette (46 points).

One week remains of regular play before the playoffs begin.

Starting at $1.44/week.
