Dohman tops area Ironman field
LAKE PLACID – Dan Dohman of Jay was the top local finisher in the 15th running of the Ironman Lake Placid triathlon Sunday, July 28.
Dohman was the 332nd overall finisher with a total time of 11:16:59. He completed the 1.2-mile swim in Mirror Lake in 1:10:02, the 112-mile bike in 6:07:06 and the 26.2-mile run in 3:48:48 to rank 11th in the 18- to 25-year-old age group. He improved on his time of 11:59:17 from last year.
Andy Potts of Michigan won the overall Ironman Lake Placid title and became the first-ever repeat champion at the event in the process. Potts finished in 8:43:29 to beat out runner-up Daniel Fontana of Italy who crossed the line in 8:48:29.
Jennie Hansen of Rochester won the women’s race with a time of 9:35:06. Colleen Porter of Lake Placid was the top local women’s finisher with a time of 12:52:27.
There were 18 finishers from the Tri-Lakes area and 2,334 overall in the race.
Brian Delaney of Lake Placid completed his 15th Ironman Lake Placid in a row, while Chris Grant and Bob Morganson each finished their seventh-straight. Delaney has completed every Ironman Lake Placid.
Bob Tebo (Tupper Lake) and Wes Wilson (Bloomingdale) finished for the fourth year in a row.
Delaney, who owns High Peaks Cyclery right on the race course in Lake Placid, crossed the finish line with a time of 13:20:51 this year. He finished in 13:06:12 last year, 12:34:15 in 2011, 12:08:39 in 2010, 12:09:41 in 2009, 12:03:31 in 2008, 11:10:33 in 2007, 11:14:56 in 2006, 11:43:19 in 2005 and 12:27:36 in 2004.
Taylor McKenna of Lake Placid finished for a second year in a row, completing the 140.6-mile course in 14:03:01. He finished in 13:16:22 last year.
