To the Editor:
Recently I had a chance to catch up with one of our community planners, and she expressed her dismay that our sign law for Lake Placid was not being respected by our business community.
Section 6.3.2 lists Prohibited Signs. Subsection E. prohibits, "Signs that employ florescent materials or finishes " On a village stroll, we encountered numerous neon signs advertising beer, soda, fish, and real estate. Some may recall that my family may have had the gaudiest standard Holiday Inn sign ever with its neon, it yellow arrow made out of flashing blubs, its huge internally lit message board. Thanks to community planning, that sign was prohibited.
We are fortunate to have a strong volunteer base of planners in Lake Placid. If you think our local laws need amendment to allow for neon, for internally lit "Open" signs, then let your voice be heard, but for now, please take down your neon.
