Anthony "Tony" Lucas, 76, of Keene and Hilton Head Island, SC passed away at Medical University of South Carolina on Monday, January 14, 2013. He had been valiantly fighting congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation for a number of months.
Tony graduated from Bucknell University where he met his wife, Ellena. He did graduate work at Temple University. He retired from ICI Americas, Inc. as Director of Human Resources. Upon retirement he and his wife built their home In Keene so they could enjoy hiking, cross country skiing and other outdoor and cultural activities in the Adirondack Mountains.
In addition to his love of hiking, he was an avid tennis player. Two years ago they built their home in Hilton Head Island, SC where they intended to live part time.
After moving to Keene, Tony became president of the Hurricane Mountain Chapter, ADK, and revitalized the club membership by introducing new outings and activities. He was awarded ADK's Volunteer of the Year several years ago for his contribution the Chapter
Tony was a past president of the Keene Planning Board, and past president of the Elizabethtown Hospital Board. He was a member of the Keene Library Board. As a member of the Adirondack Film Society Board and Lake Placid Film Forum he introduced new programs, including the popular North Country Shorts.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ellena; a son Gregory and his wife, Marie of New Castle, DE; a son Jeffrey and his wife Virginia of West River, MD; one grandson, Will, a sister, Linda Hayes of Rockville, MD and a cousin, Lynn Zuck of Wilmington, NC, and many, many friends.
A memorial service for Tony will be held this summer at the Keene Valley Congregation Church.
