Blue Bombers start strong

The Lake Placid girls soccer team is off to a strong start after winning its first two games of the season.

The Blue Bombers opened the schedule with a 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown-Lewis on Friday, Sept. 7, then came back Tuesday, Sept. 11 with a 4-2 win over Seton Catholic.

Freshman Liza Marinis was the star of the game against Elizabethtown, scoring a goal in each half. At the 7:53 mark of the first half, she took a pass from Adele Jesmer to record the first goal of the season.

The Lions evened the score at 1-1 when Emily Morris scored early in the second half on a feed from Shonna Brooks.

The Blue Bombers got the game-winner seven minutes later when Sam Barney found Marinis for a score.

Lake Placid outshot Elizabethtown 15-12, while Liz Leff stopped 10 shots in goal for the Blue Bombers.

Against Seton Catholic, Payton Barney scored twice to lead the Bombers to a 4-2 victory.

Barney opened the scoring in the eighth minute on a pass from Brooke Reid. Kendra Manning put the Blue Bombers ahead 2-0 with an unassisted goal three minutes later.

Barney's second goal came seven minutes into the second half after she received a pass from Sam Barney.

Seton Catholic cut its deficit to 3-1 with a goal 28 minutes into the second half, but the Bombers put the game out of reach when goalie Leff connected on a penalty kick two minutes later.

Lake Placid outshot Seton Catholic 18-10, with Leff stopping six shots. Kelli Ryan made 11 saves in goal for the Knights.
