Overdose Awareness Day was a success, is now an annual event

To the editor:

Lake Placid/Wilmington Connecting Youth and Communities Coalition, Inc. recognized Overdose Awareness Day on Aug. 31 at the beautiful Wilmington Town Beach. The weather was great, and we had a larger than expected turn out. We provided information on underage alcohol use.

Three speakers shared their story of loved ones lost to overdose. Casey King excited the crowd with news about the new Sober Active Recovery Adirondacks program.

The Prevention Team, St. Josephs Addiction, Treatment and Recovery Centers and Citizen’s Advocates were present with staff and information. We had a very meaningful candle light vigil followed by more than 30 people receiving free Naracan training.

This was definitely an annual program and was appreciative of the efforts of the group who put this together.
