Additions to motorboat column

To the editor:

The article by Tyler Merriam (in the Aug. 27 issue of the Lake Placid News) was interesting but left out a few very important safety points.

First the boat should be equipped with an anchor and a paddle. It also shout carry a fire extinguisher and devices (a horn and flares) to signal an emergency. If the boat is to be used at night it must display required running lights. Finally if it is to be used for waterskiing, aqua planing or tubing it must carry two persons, one to drive and the other to handle the tow rope and observe the skier or tuber.
