Art Devlin for mayor

To the editor:

Lake Placid is known for being one of the original travel destinations with a community rooted in sports. Personally, I’ve spent the last three decades growing a business that is based around the heart and soul of Lake Placid. Our village deserves officials that will support and foster a community that cares about locals and visitors.

I’ve gotten to know Art over the last 10 years while on the North Elba Half Marathon Committee. In 2012, Art, with other locals including Marc Galvin, stepped up to save the race, a staple of the community since its organization in the 1970s. For a few years, Art was up with me at 4 a.m. to put traffic cones out on the course. Without Art, this event with its 40-year history would’ve been lost.

In addition to Art’s support for community events he is not new to the needs and concerns of our village, being a trustee for four years and deputy mayor for eight years. Art is a small business owner who spends his free time volunteering at the food pantry and other community organizations. Art has been instrumental in saving the village millions on sewer and electric projects. All to say, we would be lucky to have someone like Art as mayor of Lake Placid.
