Art Devlin for mayor

To the editor:

An audit of the village of Lake Placid was performed by the Office of the State Comptroller and was released in December of 2010. The audit period was for the period of July 1, 2004, through Dec. 31, 2009. Here are some of the comptroller’s written comments.

“Internal controls of the village payroll functions were inadequate and in some cases, nonexistent.”

“Deficiencies in internal controls combined with lack of board oversight resulted in both improper and unauthorized payments and the potential for fraud and abuse to occur without being detected.”

“The Treasurer did not sign any Village Checks during our audit period and told us the lack of internal controls over the Village finances made her reluctant to affix her signature to Village checks.”

With the support of the voters of Lake Placid, Craig Randall, Zay Curtis and Art Devlin successfully ran for village office in March of 2009. Their goal was to repair the financial damage left by the prior mayor, Jamie Rogers, and his Board of Trustees.

After years of work, the residents of the village of Lake Placid can be assured that financial controls were created and are being followed.

I am in support of Art Devlin for mayor because I do not want the finances of the village to go back to the past, and I have worked with Art in his position of deputy mayor.

He has attended countless meetings with various business associations, beautification and the Lake Placid development commission. He is police and fire commissioner, always putting the needs of Lake Placid residents above his own.

On Wednesday, March 16, please join me in electing Art Devlin as mayor of the village of Lake Placid.

Thank you,

Peter Holderied
