Thanks for help restoring sculpture

To the editor:

The 1980 Olympics celebrated the arts in Lake Placid in addition to athletics, in part through the installation of sculptures throughout the village. The Lake Placid Center for the Arts has been in the process of repairing and relocating one of those works, named “Placid,” created by the renowned sculptor Lyman Kipp. This large steel-beam structure sat in pieces for many years until this week, when it was bolted together and carefully raised with a crane, the first steps toward installing it in its new home at LPCA.

Thanks to Mayor Craig Randall for his support and encouragement for this project, and to the Lake Placid village highway and electric departments for the assistance provided with equipment and skilled staff who have helped bring this sculpture back to the community.

Look for “Placid” at LPCA this spring.
