Invitation: Become part of the Lake Placid News family; subscribe today

Since 1905, the Lake Placid News has proudly served as the hometown newspaper for this historic community, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for generations to come.

But we can’t do it without your help.

We’ve covered the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games; thousands of local, state, national and international sporting events; community groups; politics; education; arts and culture; environment; history; social issues; business and economy; and countless other issues. We’ve covered the people of the Olympic Region from their births to their deaths. And we’ve served as a clearinghouse for local opinions.

Even through the challenging times of the Digital Age, with a decrease in print advertising revenue and newsroom staff, the News remains committed to covering the village of Lake Placid and the towns of North Elba, Jay, Keene and Wilmington. Together with the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, our sister newspaper, no other news outlets cover the Tri-Lakes Region like we do. Without us, there would be little coverage of local government and schools here, and much of the communities’ news would never be reported.

The vision of our newspapers is to be the most reliable and trusted news hub for the communities we serve. We keep residents and visitors informed, inspired and involved with news that is accurate, fair and as complete as possible while providing solutions in their daily lives, and advertising opportunities for local businesses through a portfolio of products.

At the Enterprise, we strive to be the leading provider of news, sports and information in the Tri-Lakes Region.

At the Lake Placid News, we connect readers to the communities of the Olympic Region and celebrate the people who make this one of the best places to live and visit on Earth.

For years, the Lake Placid News has offered free space for civic groups to share their news with our readers, and monthly columns currently come from all corners of the community: Ausable River Association, Garden Club of Lake Placid, Lake Placid Public Library, Lions Club of Lake Placid, Mirror Lake Watershed Association and Rotary Club of Lake Placid. And we continually invite more local organizations to write monthly columns.

We don’t just give you news and sports; we give you peace of mind. That we’re watching government leaders to make sure they’re serving the public to the best of their ability. That we’re giving people the latest news they can trust as quickly and thoroughly as possible and the latest information that is important to their lives. That we’re giving businesses effective ways to advertise so they can grow and become more profitable.

The only way to keep serving you — our community — is with your help. (This is one of those “Help me help you” moments we’ve seen in the “Jerry Maguire” movie.)

We’re not a nonprofit organization, so we don’t have a fundraising drive. There’s no annual call for new members or membership renewals. The best way to “help us help you” is to subscribe to the News, which is printed weekly — mailed to subscribers and available on newsstands every Thursday — with most of the content published on our website: www.lakeplacidnews.com.
