Since its inception in 2000, the Lake Placid Film Forum has been the Adirondack North Country’s premier film event. It’s one place in the region where filmgoers and movie buffs can count on seeing cutting edge independent films, first-rate documentaries, and the best of the best among studio movies while meeting filmmakers and industry pros in an up-close-and-personal setting.

The Adirondack Film Society doesn’t just screen films: it curates, analyzes and seeks to help educate audience members about the films it presents. This year’s edition of the film forum is a perfect example of that. Between Wednesday, June 3, and Sunday, June 7, moviegoers will be able to attend more than a dozen screenings.

The Lake Placid Film Forum kicked off Wednesday, June 3 with a screening of “Jaws,” directed by Steven Spielberg, at Mid’s Park.

Thursday, June 4

7 p.m. “Mantrap,” a silent film directed by Victor Fleming starring Clara Bow (1926), preceded by the comedy short “Dog Shy” starring Charlie Chase (1926), featuring live piano accompaniment by Ben Model. LPCA.

Friday, June 5

7 p.m. “Effie Gray,” a feature written by Emma Thompson, directed by Richard Laxton and starring Dakota Fanning (2014). Palace Theatre.

8 p.m. “Sleepless in Lake Placid,” screenings and judging of a 24-hour undergraduate college student film competition, including People’s Choice awards and a Q&A with student filmmakers and their advisors. LPCA.
