Fall is officially here! The nice, crisp air and vibrant colors are everywhere for people to soak up and enjoy. If you are looking for a good book to enjoy while you savor the season, the Lake Placid Public Library has many new arrivals in adult, young adult, and the children departments. Check out our catalog on our website www.lakeplacidlibrary.org, call us 518-523-3200, or come in to inquire about any titles you may be interested in.

On Monday of last week, library staffers were delighted to have Assemblyman Billy Jones stop in for a visit. With the state redistricting change, the town of North Elba will be in his District 115 as of Jan. 1. His words and actions of continued support for cultural institutions is something very important to him as well as North Elba and surrounding areas. He toured the building with Director Bambi Pedu inquiring about the history of the building, operating procedures, and programs available through the library. He is a true advocate for literacy and cultural institutions.

Free math tutoring

If you find yourself struggling with math, and looking for a little help, give us a call at the library. We offer free math tutoring sessions for any student in grades 6 through 12. Chris Ward will be available by appointment only. For more information, call us at 518-523-3200. This program is made available thanks to the Lake Placid Education Foundation Technology and Education Grant 2022.

Children’s programming

Homeschool Thursdays started up again at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 at the library. The theme was, “Flying Fun.” Families explored principles of flight, engineering, and innovation through a read-aloud, discussion, and hands-on activities.

The programs are geared toward children in grades K-6, but other ages are welcome. Mark your calendars for Oct. 27 for the Giving Thanks Storytime and craft, hosted by a member of the Mohawk Tribe of the Six Nations, Emily Kasennisaks Cecilia Stacey. The event will take place at the library at 10 a.m. For more information, call 518-523-3200 or email librarian@lakeplacidlibrary.org. This event is made possible thanks to the Lake Placid Education Foundation Grant from the Adirondack Foundation.

Fall StoryWalk

The book “Mouse’s First Halloween” are being installed in Main Street store windows starting on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Join Mouse for a (not so) Spooky walk down Main street! Begin by picking up your jack-o-lantern inside the library, next proceed down Main Street reading “Mouse’s First Halloween” by Lauren Thompson, illustrated by Buket Erdogan. Once you have read the page posted in a Main Street window, stop into the business, locate the library box, and collect your treat to place in your jack-o-lantern. Happy reading and have fun.

Ms. Linda’s Storytime

Every Friday morning at 10:30, Ms. Linda entertains parents and their preschoolers with an engaging story that generally includes songs dancing and a table time activity. She is planning some thrilling Halloween tales to share with all who attend on Fridays during the month of October. We hope to see many Trick-or-Treaters this year at the Library. Happy Halloween!
