AROUND AUSABLE: AuSable Valley Golf Club opens for season

The Knights of Columbus Council 2301 AuSable Forks will host its annual Psalm Sunday Pancake Breakfast on April 17 at the Holy Name School gym. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Holy Name School. For more information, contact Tom at 946-2554.    

Congratulations to Leonard Snow, former resident of town who was recently presented with a certificate for Honorary Life Membership in the AuSable Forks Knights of Columbus Council 2301. Len joined Council 2301 in 1945 after serving his country during World War II. Grand Knight James Akey presented this certificate to Len. Len’s daughter Patti Snow attended the presentation with her dad.     

Congratulations to Alexis Facteau, junior at AVCS who was chosen for the second team All-Stars CVAC for Basketball. Alexis averaged 12.2 points per game. I omitted her name last week when the others were named. My apologies to Alexis for this error.     

Mike Nugent was presented with a beautiful plaque for 45 years of dedicated service to the AuSable Forks Fire Department at its annual Awards Banquet. Congratulations Mike and thanks for all years you have served our community.     

Kendall (Hartson) LeMay was guest of honor at a baby shower held for her at the Keeseville VFW on April 10, 2011. On hundred forty guest attended and a delicious buffet and beautifully decorated cake was served. Kendall received many beautiful gifts and she thanks everyone who attended or sent a gift. The ultrasound indicates its a girl and she is scheduled to arrive on June 7.     

The annual meeting of the North Jay Cemetery Association will be held on May 1 at 3 p.m. at the home of Norma and Ken Joy at 293 Rolling Mill  Hill Road in AuSable Forks. For more information, call 647-5143.     

The AuSable Valley Golf Club has opened under spring conditions with 7 holes open at this time.The availability is pending day to day weather conditions. There are reduced rates at this time with no carts available. Regular rates will resume when conditions allow. The golf course opens daily at 8 a.m. For more information, call 647-8666.

Hilary Stanley, daughter of Lawrence and Mary Jane Stanley of Florida and Jesse Rogers, son of Jody Borden of AuSable Forks, were united in marriage in Port Kent on Sept. 25, 2010 by Kim Rennie. A reception was held at Harmony Golf Club. Hilary and Jesse reside in AuSable Forks.

Congratulations to the Newlyweds and best wishes for a very happy life together. Susan Cooper, daughter of Marilyn Cooper of AuSable Forks and the late Judson Cooper and Robert Howard, son of George and step son of Zoa Howard of Peru, and son of Connie Hayes of Wadhams announce their engagement. An Aug. 27 wedding is being planned.  

Helen Lawrence of Upper Jay announces the engagement of her granddaughter, Lynn LaMoy to Matthew Slutter, son of Dennis and April Slutter of Champlain. An Aug. 13 wedding is being planned.     

The Tahawus Lodge Center Culture Community Commerce Windows of Change Gallery located at 14234 Main St. state Route 9N in AuSable Forks, will hold an opening reception featuring Mark Hobson’s work on April 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. This event will also feature the Forks Portrait Project. Rulfs Orchard in Peru will host its first Easter Egg Hunt on April 16 at 10 a.m. Areas will be designated for each age group to make it fair for all. Every child will go home with an Easter goodies bag. Come one, come all and enjoy the fun.     

Cindi Murphy will host a Bake Sale on April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stewart’s in AuSable Forks to raise funds for her trip to the annual Walk MS event to be held at the Harness Track in Saratoga on May 1. Cindi will be walking in honor of Tracey SantaMaria who is battling MS. Cindi’s goal is to reach a minimum $500 in sponsor funds for her “Triumph For Tracey” Team.

Anyone wishing to donate a food item or monetary donation may drop items off at M & M Diner during hours of operation on or before April 22. For more information, contact Cindi at 647-8264.    

The AuSable Forks Free Library will host a special Cinco de Mayo Storytime on April 30 at 10:30 a.m. All children 3 years of age and up and are  accompanied by a parent are welcome to attend. All children attending will learn about this Mexican Holiday with stories, a craft and a treat. This free of charge event does not require pre-registration. 

Librarian Susanna wishes to thank Stewart’s for the recent Holiday Match Grant the library received. She also thanks all members of the community who donated to the holiday match. The funds will be used to update the library Children’s Room which helps to be able to meet the needs of the younger library patrons     

No new updates this week on Bab Luke or Roy Ano. They continue to be monitored by their doctors and updates will be posted as they become available. Continue your prayers for both of them please. Jackie Ashley Kimbel has completed her first round of chemo and is awaiting results of MRI to see what treatments of chemo and radiation have accomplished to date. Jackie is so grateful for all the cards from her many friends in the North Country and welcomes them to be sent to her at 110 Dutton Drive New Castle, DE 19720-5454. Please continue your prayers for her.
