Peru Lady Indians and Plattsburgh Boys won the Team Sportsmanship award. Bailey Cross and Madison McCabe were the winners of the John Nixon Memorial Best Offensive Player award. Seth Schaefer and Kourtney Keenan were the winners of the Kari Nixon Memorial Sportsmanship award. Andrew Cutalar and Hayley Disco were the winners of the Harry Ano Defensive Player award. Dante Viskovich and Nia Blaise were the winners of the Thomas A. Douglas Memorial MVP Award.     

A 9-pin Bowling Tournament and raffle was held at Riverside Lanes on April 2 to benefit the Community Action Angels. Fourteen teams participated and the winning team was Ali’s Bunch, Barry and Mike Ano, Allyson Braid, Keena Banker and Jody Leclair with a score of 3944. Kellen Nolan, Jeff Miller, Shawn Minogue, Danyle Rockwell and KC Zaumetzer all bowlled a 300 game. Tiffany Lowther was the lucky winner of the beautiful raffled basket.

I was unable to obtain the winner’s name of the other basket before I went to press. 50/50’s were sold each game. Jen Bolton did a fantastic job of organizing this event. All proceeds will be used to purchase baby items for infants and children up to 2 years of age who are in need of assistance.     

Congratulations to Shawn Minogue, a member of Sharkies Dollies Thursday night bowling league who bowled 234, 214, and 273 for a 724 series during league play on March 28. Congratulations Shawn keep up the excellent bowling.

My condolences to the family of Alice Devins Rivers, 71, who passed away unexpectedly in Maryland on March 1. Alice was born on May 17, 1939, daughter of Eugene and Mildred (Grenier) Devins. She was a former resident of Jay and Lake Placid. A celebration of her life was held at the Church of the Nazarene in Lake Placid on April 2. RIP Alice.  

My condolences to the family of Valda Sheffield, 96, of AuSable Forks who passed away on March 26. She was born in Clintonville on Sept. 20, 1914, daughter of Baxter and Permelia (Santo) Booth. A Mass of Christian burial was held at Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks. Burial followed in the Holy Name Cemetery. RIP Valda.     

The following students from AuSable Valley Central School were chosen members of the CVAC All-Star Teams in basketball: Most Valuable Player was Alexis Coolidge, senior; and Second Team Alexis Fountain, junior. Congratulations girls.  

The following were chosen members of the CVAC boys basketball All-Star teams from AVCS: First team, Brody Douglass; second team, Jordan Coolidge; and third team TJ Burl. Congratulations boys.     

The Lonesome Traveler Band held a great afternoon of musical entertainment at the Town of Jay Community Center on March 27. Eighty music lovers attended and really enjoyed the afternoon. A full concession was held along with 50/50 and raffles. Due to unforeseen circumstances the Lonesome Traveler’s will not be holding any dances for awhile. Please stay tuned to this column for information as it becomes available.     

The annual Holy Name Auction/Spaghetti Dinner is scheduled to be held on May 7 at the American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks. Dinner will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Take outs are available. The live auction with auctioneer Ed McCallister putting many wonderful donated items on the auction block will begin promptly at 6 p.m.

Donations of items for the auction are gratefully accepted and may be dropped off at Holy Name School. Call 647-8444 for more information.     

Updates this week

Baby Luke Garcia is responding to antibiotics and feeling better. He is being monitored by his Cardiologist in Vermont until he returns to Boston Children’s Hospital. Please continue your prayers for him.

Roy Ano is awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Currently family members are being tested for a possible match. Please continue to pray for Roy.

Jackie Ashley Kimbel is felling better from her bout with shingles. She started her chemo treatment on Monday and asks everyone back home to continue praying for her. She thanks everyone for their cards and well wishes and she welcomes cards to be addressed to Jackie at 110 Dutton Dr., New Castle, DE 19720-5454.
