Dorothy C. Taube

After a long and well-lived life, Dorothy C. Taube, 95, of Lake Placid, passed away at home on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Aime and Josephine Lorini Causse.

She was a graduate of New York State College for Teachers at Albany (SUNY Albany) and a lifelong learner.

A 50-plus year resident of Lake Placid, Dorothy was an energetic, active, intelligent mother of seven and a high school math teacher and tutor. She was on the faculty of Northwood School for more than 40 years, formally retiring at the age of 87. She was also a private tutor for more than five decades into her 90s, both in Lake Placid and earlier in Rome, New York, preparing hundreds of students to pass the math Regents exams.

Dorothy was also active in figure skating, serving as a skating judge in the 1970s and 1980s. She was as a bobsled venue hostess for the 1980 Winter Olympics and served as a summer breakfast cook for years at the Greenwood Lodge, where she enjoyed interacting with the skaters boarded there.

She was an early adherent to the benefits of exercise, starting in the 1960s with “The Jack LaLanne Show” and continuing throughout her life. In addition to her daily workout, she liked to swim and walk in the woods.

Dorothy is survived by six of her seven children, Richard Taube of Woburn, Massachusetts, Aimee (Gordon) McKane of Latham, New York, Thomas (Aliya) Taube of Stillwater, Minnesota, Paul (Sylvia) Taube of The Woodlands, Texas, Peter (Jeanmarie) Taube of Marco Island, Florida, and Joanne (David) Williams of Lake Placid. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Harry E. Taube; their son Mark Taube; and her grandson Nicholas Taube.

The family would like to thank our sister, Joanne, for her exceptional dedication, love and hard work in managing Dorothy’s care during her last year of life, and to recognize the caregivers that permitted Dorothy to remain in the comfort of her home: Francine Jesmer, Patti McConvey, Lorraine LaPlante, Theresa Bimonte, Samantha Clark, Robin Hogan-Law, Danielle Gonyea, and Erica Holtz. Additionally, the physical, emotional, and spiritual support from Dr. Karen Cooper, North Country Hospice, and Father John greatly eased our mother’s transition to eternal life.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours and a memorial of Dorothy’s life from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at the M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, and to attend a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at St. Agnes Church, 169 Hillcrest Ave., Lake Placid. A burial service at St. Agnes Cemetery will be held immediately following the Mass.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes Church.
