Dalene Ruth Chick

Dalene Ruth Chick, 88, of Gaylord, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on July 27, 2021, at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

She was born, Dalene Ruth Morningstar, on July 3, 1933 to Dale and Gertrude (Frisby) Morningstar in Flint, Michigan.

She was raised and spent much of her adult life in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School and worked as a teachers aide and a customer service representative while raising her three children. In 1995 she married Timothy Chick at Second Presbyterian Church in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1999 she and her husband moved to Lake Placid, where they enjoyed mountain living for 18 years. She was active in the Adirondack Community Church, as a volunteer at Uihlein Adult Living Center and as a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club. They returned to Michigan in 2017 to be closer to her family.

Dalene was a remarkable woman, so pleasant, happy, kind and caring with a smile that brightened everyone she met. She was so welcoming to everyone but her family was the main focus of her life. Her parents and sisters were so close and important to her. She was devoted to her children, as a single mother, and then throughout their lives. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were so dear to her and they adored “Gramma D” in return. Dalene was a dedicated, loving and caring wife to Tim and they enjoyed almost 40 years together. Tim would often say, “she was the best thing that ever happened to me.” Her time at get-togethers with her sisters and their families was especially joyous for her. Her faith was very important to her but she didn’t push it onto others, rather, she lived it. Dalene loved to cook, cross country ski, play volleyball, ice skate and sing in her church choir. She was an active walker and exercise enthusiast.

She is survived by her sister, Carol (Dave); husband, Tim; son, James Lange Jr.; daughter, Pamela Werth-Lewis (Steve); grandson Tory Werth (Melanie); and granddaughters Vanessa Werth and Jessalyn Lange; great grandchildren Roland, Violette, Lilly, Bleu, Gideon and Jaxson; and daughter-in-law Lee Anne Whitman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Gloria Frick and Shirley McQuiston; and son, Jeffery Lange.

At Dalene’s request, her body has been donated to the Wayne State University Medical School. Also, at her request, there will be a “gathering” for family and friends at Park of the Pines in Boyne City, Michigan at 4 p.m. Aug. 27. A tree will be planted in her honor at a park in Lake Placid.

Those wishing to remember Dalene are requested to donate to the Salvation Army, St. Jude Hospital or the Lake Placid/North Elba Tree Board.
