Dorothy Ann Proulx

Dorothy Ann Proulx, 93, died on March 24, 2021, in Vero Beach, Florida.

Known familiarly as “Dot,” she was born March 19, 1928, in Lake Placid, the daughter of Ernest and Jane (Patterson) Holt, and married her high school sweetheart Robert Romeo Proulx. She is survived by her sister Alice (Colby) Wood and her three children: Kathy (Andrew) Mann, Michelle (Keith) Silva and Robert (Tracey) Proulx Jr.

She had a strong work ethic from an early age, which was exhibited by her spending time behind the counter of the family business, the Holt Variety Store in Lake Placid. She worked as a kindergarten assistant for 10 years at the Queensbury Elementary School in Glens Falls before enjoying a career in women’s fashion as store manager, first at Erlanger’s in Glens Falls followed by Francis Brewster and Harold Grant in Vero Beach. Her clients knew her to be a caring and thoughtful person, always receiving a personal hand-written “thank you.”

She lived a quiet life and never asked for much, but she appreciated what she had and throughout her life showed herself to be resilient, capable and independent. She took joy from and pride in her work, was a proud grandmother to Emily (Jacob) Hilton, Jessica and Charlotte Proulx, and was excited to have recently become a great-grandmother to twins Noah and Miles Hilton.

For those fortunate to have gotten to know her personally, there was a universal appreciation for what a genuinely lovely person she was. She was kind, seldom ruffled or of poor temper, and never asked anything of others.

She was, and will continue to be, loved and missed.

A funeral service will be held at the Adirondack Community Church, Lake Placid, followed by burial at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid at a later date to be announced.

The M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
