Thomas A. Czerwinski

Thomas Allan “Tommy” Czerwinski, 75, of Lake Placid, died suddenly Dec. 26, 2020, in the town of Tonawanda, where he and his wife had gone to be with his son and granddaughters for the holidays.

Prior to his retirement, Tommy had worked 36 years at Dunlop Tire Corp. in Tonawanda. Since retiring, he has been a security guard during events at the Lake Placid Olympic Center, and the driver for all judges, athletes, etc., to and from the airports, trains and buses in Albany and Montreal. He was a dear friend with the Miracle on Ice team and many others that came to know him just by traveling with him.

Ludmilla and Olga Protopopov, the famous gold-medal Russian couple, would never even return in summers if Tommy was not the driver who got them, and they loved each other. He did not like retirement, so as soon as he moved to Lake Placid in 2003, he took the job and in some years made 92 trips. He loved all the people, but most of all he loved his home, his wife and little family.

Tommy is survived by his beloved wife of 55-plus years, who he has been with since growing up, Rebecca Ann (nee Sundean-Stickney), who calls him the best husband God ever created. He is also survived by his son, who worshiped his father, Thomas Jon (T.J) of Tonawanda, and two darling little granddaughters, Autumn Lorrayne and Willow Grayce, whom he adored. Tommy was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter Robyn Lorrayne, age 23, who was attending Johns Hopkins University in Maryland to become a doctor when she was killed.

Services will be private. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Tonawanda, next to his beloved daughter. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Tommy’s memory can mail it to NorthEast Pyr Rescue, P.O. Box 704, Lee, MA 01238, or online at www.nepyresq.org/page/donations-26.html.
