Peter Carl Bovard

Peter Carl Bovard died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2020, at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake.

He was loved very much by his family and will be missed terribly.

Peter was born on March 31, 1933 at Utica to Carl A. Bovard and Lenora Mac Connell Bovard.

He graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1951. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence University in 1955. In 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. This included a tour in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

Peter spent almost half of his life at his beloved North Star Resort in Deep River, Ontario. He was loved by generations of families who vacationed there year after year. Under his care the Ottawa Valley paradise thrived and it will go on for many more generations.

In his younger years, Peter was a crazy water and snow skier. He was known to show off on the Ottawa River skiing barefoot. He loved wildlife and gardening. His gardens were prolific giving him the opportunity to share the bounty with many friends.

Peter’s grandsons, Matthew and James Nardiello were crazy about their “Bumpy.” He was the best grandfather ever.

Survivors include his stepchildren, Katharine Stavenhagen and Dan Nardiello of Lake Placid, Marianne Stavenhagen and Curt McGowan of Katy, Texas and Richard and Jennifer (Hovland) Stavenhagen and their two children Maddy and Henry. Other survivors are his brother-in-law Joe McCranels Of Jay, New York; nephew Steven McCranels; niece Lisa Forkey and family; and cousin Jon Bovard of Weedsport, New York.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Wells Bovard, and sisters Margaret Paolucci and Cynthia McCranels.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring when we can hopefully safely gather to honor and remember Peter. Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Lake Placid.
