Ada F. (Hare) Smith

Ada F. (Hare) Smith left us on Nov. 15, 2019, after a very long illness.

Born on Aug. 17, 1947, to parents Walter and Gertrude Hare, her childhood was filled with adventures on the Torrance farm in North Elba. She often told stories of camping with her cousins at Marcy Dam. Her younger years found her skating and working on the farm.

She was married on Jan. 12, 1971, to Stephen E. Smith of Keene. They started their family of five children. Knitting was one of her passions, and she would often be called upon to create items such as blankets, hats, mittens and Christmas stockings. She also was an avid baker and impacted many kids with her sugar cookie recipe.

She is survived by her husband Steve; sister-in-law Martha (Leigh) Hadley; sister-in-law Anita; sister-in-law Kristy (Christopher); brother-in-law Travis; sons Matt, Mark (Lisa), Mitch (Christine) and Melvin; daughter Mary; stepdaughter Michelle and stepson Michael; grandchildren Christopher (Carlee), Chelsea (Scott), Alexis, Hayden, Mason, Sebastian, Abigail, Vivian, Kempton, Beverley, Rylee, Braydon, Julian, Carter, Kyla, Jaelyn and Lamar; great-grandchildren Braxton, Joanna and Adriana Rose; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her mother- and father-in-law Napoleon “Buck” and Anita Smith, brother Ken, sister-in-law Caroline, sister-in-law Shirley, sister-in-law Gracelyn, brother-in-law Patrick, brother-in-law Terry (Anita) and grandson Reginald M. Lee.

There will not be calling hours at this time. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Keene Volunteer Fire Department. The M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to share a memory, or leave condolences at www.mbclarkfuneralhome.com.
