Candice (Bassett) Wagner

Candice (Bassett) Wagner, 67, died on Oct. 22, 2019, surrounded by her loving family from complications of a continuous nine-year battle with cancer. She was a practicing physical therapist for 35 years.

Growing up in Elizabethtown, Candy had a great appreciation of the Adirondacks. She was active in hiking, skiing and canoeing. Thirteen years recently spent in Colorado expanded her love of outdoor activity with more skiing, Jeeping and camping. She became a real “Western gal.” In Colorado she was introduced to tennis, which became a passion for her. She moved back to this area in 2009 for the birth of her first grandchild.

As a perfectionist, Candy spent many enjoyable hours tending her garden. In addition to flowers, it was always filled with butterflies and bees. As a master gardener in Colorado, she developed a Spanish edition of garden care for Habitat for Humanity gardening. Being a gourmet cook, she often made revisions to recipes, usually using herbs from her garden.

A new interest in genealogy revealed some fairly close relatives who went west in the 1880s, becoming prominent ranchers and community members. A recent driving vacation to Wyoming to meet these relatives and see the sights was a highlight for Candy.

Candy gave much of herself asking little in return. Her humor, laughter and sense of joy was contagious. She brought out the best in others. Quilting provided many gifts for family and friends.

Candy is survived by her husband John Wagner, her son Leif Rozen and his wife Allison, and grandchildren Rachel (10), Luke (4) and Felicity (2). She is also survived by two brothers: Rick and wife Kathy Bassett, and Skip and wife Nancy Bassett, and families.
